Toyota new car – 86 is 2000 cc / 200 PS, FR, front midship, without turbo – is almost ideal light weight sports car. Well, it is a bit too big and heavy, though. Who is the target buyer? I know that’s we are, 40 to 50 age generation. The price is over 2M yen that is not cheap for younger generation. It is not so light for narrow winding road. Especially the naming – 86 – sounds very strange for me. Our generation knows light weight FR cars around 1990. 86 Levin and Toreno, Gemini ZZ-R (that I had), RX-7 (that I also had) are the cars for young generation. 91 Levin, Civic, CR-X were FF cars that we did not like. The reason was simple, draft driving (that should not do on the road). If they follow TOYOTA naming, the new car should be 12 Levin and Toreno. However, they selected 86 because the target is boys racer in 1990’s. I do not think they drive the car with draft with too wide tire. I hope Toyota will provide downgrade car, like 1800 cc / 180 PS, FR, front midship, without turbo, 5 number with very light weight, under 1.5 M yen, smaller size and hard tire. The naming can be 12 Levin for today’s generation.
